About this Project
TG Gallagher’s Service department regularly provides maintenance to multiple hospitals in the Boston area. Recently, the team undertook the replacement of a fire pump for a specialized surgical hospital in Everett that offers services such as inpatient care, radiology, imaging, rehabilitation, and more. The fire pump served the entire hospital campus, which consisted of several buildings.
Due to the hospital’s ongoing operations, TGG strategically maintained the existing fire suppression system while completing the replacement. The new pump, along with the updated fire pump control panel, was installed in a different location. This allowed the team to pre-pipe the pump and pre-wire both the panel and all associated safety devices. Given the large size of the pump’s piping and its placement high in the ceiling amid other piping, extra caution needed to be taken during the rigging process. The safety team implemented protocols and techniques, ensuring proper harnessing, the use of chain falls, rigging gear, and more.
For the final tie-in, the team collaborated with the fire department, utilizing a pump truck to connect to the hydrant feeding into the hospital. The fire department stood by in case of any issues. The installation was seamless, and the client was pleased with how TGG handled the project timing and turnover.
