A reimagined shopping space turned into a state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility.

About this Project

Dana-Farber introduced its expanded oncology services with a 190,000-square-foot cancer treatment facility in Chestnut Hill. The Lifetime Center boasts two MRIs, three CT scan rooms, dual patient pharmacies, and over 150 patient and exam rooms. Designed to reduce patient strain, it offers the same amenities as the Boston main campus but in a more localized setting.

Previously a shopping center, the structure’s third and fourth floors were converted into hospital-grade spaces. TG Gallagher designed and installed the HVAC and plumbing systems. The TGG team rigged and installed two modular penthouses, built by MMS, on the roof of the building and prefabricated plumbing racks for medical utilities.

TGG’s safety team consistently communicated with the General Contractor and diligently reviewed hazmat reports before commencing work. The roof was densely populated with equipment that posed potential onsite hazards. To mitigate risks, the safety team coordinated regular meetings, walkthroughs, trainings, and pre-task plans with the GC and TGG field team to ensure work was conducted safely. The safety department’s consistent on-site presence ensured adherence to stringent safety protocols.

TGG’s in-depth site knowledge and reliable history with Dana-Farber led to a service contract for the building. The center welcomed patients in January 2021.
