51 Brattle Street is a seven-story historic building in the heart of Harvard Square that is owned by the Harvard Division of Continuing Education.

About this Project

At 51 Brattle Street, TG Gallagher completed a complex project in two phases. In the first phase, TGG installed 192 fan coil units, prefabricating components like balancing and control valves.

Harvard had a tight deadline to complete this phase before the onset of the fall semester. Despite staggered equipment shipments, the team undertook extensive preplanning to determine the most efficient order for installation.

TGG’s Project Manager and Foreman served as superintendents onsite. Through regular meetings with the owner and engineer, the project’s schedule remained on time, all the while upholding TGG’s safety standards.

The second phase introduced unique challenges as TGG undertook upgrading the existing piping system in the building’s mechanical room with limited space. The team utilized prefabrication to integrate a new welded piping system, pumps, and a replacement air handler into the mechanical room. The prefabrication took place ahead of on-site installation dates to reduce project schedule. TGG’s BIM department performed 3D scanning of the existing conditions, ensuring that every addition to the mechanical room was both serviceable and unobtrusive.

Confronted with equipment delivery delays and supply chain issues, the team showcased their dedication by working off-hours and weekends upon equipment arrival to meet the client’s timeline.
