The team ensured continuous services, navigated unique constraints, and delivered lasting solutions for the Harvard School of Public Health.

About this Project

The Harvard School of Public Health, located in Boston’s Longwood Medical Area, is a prominent institution in public health education, research, and advocacy.

For the lab at Building 2, TG Gallagher skillfully executed the replacement of three outdated air handling units, modernizing the system with two advanced units.

Given the close proximity of where the replacements were occurring to the Dean’s office suites, TGG had to adhere to unique sound requirements. The team carefully planned their work, coordinating abatement measures and installing temporary ductwork in the mechanical room to ensure that while each air handler was being replaced, the others remained functional to keep the building operating.

A significant challenge was the limited access to the mechanical space, making traditional rigging of the air handlers unfeasible. The TGG team used a gantry within an existing common plenum, allowing the new units to be safely lowered and guided into position through the pre-designed louvers for the handlers. The team equipped the space with a permanent gantry for future use of the mechanical room.
